AMD chose the annual conference of ISSCC (International Solid State Circuits Conference) to open the curtain on the Bulldozer core technologies that target the new processor servers and high-end desktops. In intnya Bulldozer processor is a "module", which integrate two cores are "inextricably linked" and a slim core processor.
According to AMD, this core has its own L1 cache, but share thehigh bandwidth of these resources as a floating point unit, L2cache and fetch, decode and prediction unit to activate the "chipmulti-threading (CMT) Intel, by contrast uses an approach calledmulti-processing chip, which uses a complete individual cores andmulti-threading.
AMD says that the bulldozers will run at clock speeds up to 3.5GHz. These processors will be manufactured by GlobalFoundrieswith 32 nm process. One module Bulldozer with two cores willaccommodate about 213 million transistors and has a surface area of only 31 mm, including L2 cache.
8-core processor next Bulldozer will have more than 1 billiontransistors in which the chip will also integrate the L3 cachecontroller and HyperTransport 3.1. Valencia Opteron future, whichlikely will be called the Opteron series 4200, will be available with asix and eight cores. While the Opteron 6200, code-namedInterlagos, will be launched with the core 8, 12 and 16.
